Shipping major CMA CGM Group has initiated a call for projects to accelerate the pace of decarbonisation in the French maritime industry.

The call is open to startups and businesses operating in the maritime sector in mainland France, as well as French overseas territories, with €200m earmarked for green projects.

CMA CGM is providing this amount out of its €1.5bn five-year Fund for Energies, which was created last September.

The Fund for Energies is part of the company’s strategy to advance its energy transition and attain Net Zero Carbon by 2050.

The latest €200m call targets various areas, including tourism and cruising, shipping, and infrastructure.

It also covers fishing and seafood products, naval and nautical industries, and renewable energies.

CMA CGM will choose the projects based on their maturity, economic feasibility, and concrete impact on the decarbonisation of the French shipping sector.

Some projects will secure shared investments from the public sector as well as private operators.

They will also ‘beneficiate from the assistance of shipping industry experts’, the shipping company said.

The firm has launched the call for projects in association with the French State Secretariat for the Sea, with applicants being allowed to submit their projects on the dedicated platform from 30 January.

Meanwhile, last month, the French liner struck a deal with Global Container Terminals (GCT) to purchase the GCT Bayonne and New York terminals.
