Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis-class cruise ship, Wonder of the Seas, has set sail on its first voyage from Florida, US.
Claimed to be the world’s largest cruise ship, the vessel departed from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale on a seven-day voyage to the Caribbean.
Throughout April, the cruise ship will sail seven-night Caribbean cruises, after which it will travel to Barcelona and Rome for a summer in the Mediterranean.
The new ship covers Royal Caribbean private destinations in the East and West Caribbean, including Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas and Labadee, Haiti, as well as San Juan, Puerto Rico; Roatan, Honduras; and Cozumel and Costa Maya in Mexico.
Destinations on the seven-night Western Mediterranean trip include Naples and Florence in Italy, Palma de Mallorca, Spain, and Provence, France.
The ship has more than 20 restaurants, bars and lounges, as well as areas for entertainment.
Wonder of the Seas features the Suite Neighborhood, with a Suite Lounge, exclusive Coastal Kitchen restaurant, plunge pool, bar and ten-member Ultimate Family Suite.
The ship also includes the Mason Jar Southern restaurant and bar, as well as a new underwater-themed play area. Called Wonder Playscape, this area has slides, climbing walls, games and interactive activities.
Wonder Dunes, Royal Caribbean’s signature mini-golf course, is added to the ship with a new look and features.
The Caribbean Pool Deck includes the new, cantilevered Vue Bar, Perfect Storm high-speed waterslides, Splashaway Bay kids aqua park and adults-only Solarium.
In addition, the cruise ship features a FlowRider surf simulator, Ultimate Abyss slide, ten-story-high zip line and scale twin rock climbing walls.
Having a length of 362m and width of 64m, Wonder of the Seas is the fifth Oasis-class ship in Royal Caribbean International’s fleet of cruise ships.
With a raft of 30ft and gross tonnage of 236,857t, the ship features 18 decks and can accommodate up to 6,988 guests across 2,867 staterooms.
