Yinson Green Technologies has commenced the construction of a new electric cargo vessel called Hydromover.
Along with its Goal Zero Consortium partners, Yinson has conducted the keel laying ceremony of the fully electric cargo vessel, which features swappable batteries.
In August 2021, Goal Zero was one of three consortiums that secured grants from the Singapore Maritime Institute and Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore to research, design, build and operate a fully electric harbour craft.
Seatech Solutions International is responsible for vessel design and system integration, Shift Clean Energy is the battery technology partner, Rina Hong Kong Limited Singapore Branch is the classification society, and Yinson leads the overall project management as well as commercialisation.
Singapore Institute of Technology and the Technology Centre for Offshore and Marine Singapore are also engaged in developing operational profiles of different harbour craft types by using digital twinning of the Hydromover.
This pilot vessel is expected to be launched by the second quarter of 2023 and commercialised in the second half of 2024.
The lightweight, 18.5m Hydromover developed by Goal Zero will be able to carry up to 25 tons of cargo.
Due to enhanced energy efficiency and reduced maintenance costs, the vessel is expected to achieve up to 50% operational cost savings.
To minimise operational downtime, the vessel’s battery can be swapped within minutes when it is depleted.
The vessel will also feature an advanced vessel management system and sensors that will enable future readiness for autonomous operation.
