Viking Saturn is a new cruise ship being constructed by Fincantieri at its Ancona shipyard in Italy for Viking Cruises.
The ocean-going vessel was floated out during a ceremony at the Ancona shipyard in June 2022 before entering its final stage of construction. Viking Saturn is the tenth of its class and will be part of Viking Cruises’ fleet of identical sister ships built by Fincantieri.

The vessel is scheduled to join its sister ships in April 2023, including Viking Mars which was delivered in May 2022.
Viking Saturn design and features
Viking Saturn will have a length of 227m, a beam width of 28.8m, and gross tonnage of 48,000t. It is designed with a total of nine decks with accommodation capacity for 930 guests and has a speed of 20kt.
The ocean-going ship incorporates a modern Scandinavian design with elegant touches and intimate spaces.
The vessel’s design is inspired by Nordic traditions and the exploratory spirit of the original Vikings. The public areas and spa are designed with light wood grains, touches of slate and teak, fragrant juniper, and Swedish limestone.
Guests can get to learn about the history of the Viking Age at the Viking Heritage Centre. The vessel will also feature characters from Norse Mythology incorporated into the design.
The ship will be installed with equipment to meet the standards of the latest navigation regulations.
Viking Saturn and its sister ships feature energy-efficient engines and optimised hydrodynamics and hull. Its sustainable design will reduce fuel consumption and will also include systems to minimise pollution to meet the strictest environmental regulations.
The ‘safe return to port’ feature of the ship will allow it to proceed to a safe port using its own power in the event of incidents such as fire and flooding.
Accommodation details
The vessel will feature 465 staterooms, which is standard across the Viking fleet. All the staterooms will have a private veranda each.
Guests can choose from three veranda stateroom options ranging from Veranda and Deluxe Veranda to Penthouse Veranda. The Veranda and Deluxe Veranda staterooms will provide 270ft² of space each, while the Penthouse Veranda stateroom with 338ft² of space will be the largest among the three stateroom categories.
All the staterooms will offer sweeping views of the destination. The floor-to-ceiling sliding glass door of the rooms will open to the veranda. Amenities in all staterooms include king-size beds, closets, bathrooms with large showers, Freyja® bath products, and heated floors. All staterooms will offer free Wi-Fi and an interactive flat-screen LCD TV.
Viking Saturn will also include 14 Explorer suites, which are two-room suites with expansive views from wraparound private verandas. Each Explorer suite will provide between 757ft² and 1,163ft² of space including the veranda.
The Penthouse Junior suite will feature 405ft² of space, while the Owner’s suite will be the largest with 1,448ft² of space with a separate bedroom suite, a six-seat dining area and a boardroom with 12-person seating.
Dining options
The ship will provide eight onboard dining options where food will be offered without any additional charge or fee.
Located on deck two, the Restaurant will offer fine dining with a variety of culinary options. Guests will be able to choose from a range of international fare and regional specialities, including sushi and seafood at the World Café on deck seven.
The Chef’s Table on deck one will provide an alternative dining experience for guests. It will offer a multi-course menu with wine pairings.
The Manfredi’s Italian restaurant on deck one will offer guests freshly prepared pasta and Italian dishes, while The Kitchen Table will offer regional dishes.
On deck seven, guests will be able to indulge in specialised gourmet burgers at the Pool Grill. The Wintergarden, which will also be located on the same deck, will offer afternoon tea and scones in an elegant setting under a canopy of Scandinavian trellised wood, while Norwegian deli-style fare will be served at Mamsen’s.
The ship will also offer outdoor seating for al fresco dining. Complimentary round-the-clock room service options will allow guests to enjoy signature dishes in the stateroom.
Onboard amenities
The vessel will feature a glass-backed infinity pool off the stern and a main pool with a retractable roof.
The Nordic Spa on deck one will feature a design based on centuries-old Scandinavian tradition of the sauna and a Snow Grotto where snowflakes gently fall from the ceiling through chilled air.
Guests can find the cruise shop, hair salon and fitness centre on deck one, while a theatre and two cinema screens will be available on deck two.
A medical centre will also be available on deck a, the lowest deck of the vessel.
Itinerary
Viking Saturn’s maiden season will include three new itineraries in Scandinavian and Nordic countries. The ship will offer two 15-day journeys, namely Iconic Iceland, Greenland & Canada and Iceland & Norway’s Arctic Explorer, and the 29-day Greenland, Iceland, Norway & Beyond voyage.
